Another first for AirAsia Print E-mail

ASIA’S leading and largest low-cost carrier, AirAsia launched its first direct flight from Indonesia to Singapore on Thursday. The celebration to mark its inaugural flight from Pekanbaru, Indonesia was held at Terminal 1, Departure Transit Lounge, Changi International Airport.

The event was launched by senior director – Air Hub Development Group Yam Kum Weng and Indonesia AirAsia’s chief executive officer Captain Dharmadi, and was witnessed by AirAsia’s group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Tony Fernandes, Swissport managing director Marc Antoine chariatte, regional director Singapore Tourism Board (Asean) Chooi Yee Choong and manager, Singapore Tourism Board (North Sumatra, Indonesia) Hassan Kassim.

“AirAsia now serves three international destinations from Indonesia; Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching), Thailand (Bangkok) and Singapore in addition to eight Indonesian domestic routes from Jakarta,” said Dharmadi.

“We are proud of the inclusion of this first direct flight from Indonesia as travellers can now benefit from AirAsia’s revolutionary low fare to connect to 106 routes which AirAsia serves in addition to the international destinations serviced by AirAsia X.

“Thus, this latest service will not only complement AirAsia’s aggressive growth in Indonesia, but is also a way of supporting the Visit Indonesia Year 2008 by feeding more traffic to the country.

“The new sector will also enable greater access to a whole new market of cost-conscious travellers from Singapore and Pekanbaru as both are established gateways.

In addition to that, we believe both countries will enjoy mutual benefits of feeding the traffic between both hubs,” he said.

“We have known to offer our guests with the best products and services; from our revolutionary low fares, leather seats, an array of hot meals to choose from, high quality service, fun and friendly cabin crew and has also introduced AirAsia On Time Guarantee.

“ It is also much easier and convenient to travel with us as bookings are made available through online and via mobile,” Dharmadi added.

Currently, there are four direct flights per week servicing Kuala Lumpur — Pekanbaru. In addition to the new service to Singapore, it brings the number to seven flights per week.
